Project Description
This 204 bed medium security housing facility was added to the 34- building complex of the Milan Federal Correctional Institution. It is located on a 332-acre site which has been owned and opearted by the US Dept. of Justice since 1931. Completed 2 months ahead of its 14-month schedule, the addition greatly alleviated the pressures of operating the facility which had been 75% over the rated capacity. The design incorporates the bow-tie configuration which connects 2 triangular housing sections at a central point. This central section contains the main control room and houses the HVAC system equipment.
Highlights include:
204 beds
Weight room and gymnasium
Cast-in-place concrete construction
In-house fabrication of miscellaneous steel
Brick masonry windows
