Project Description

At Corewell Health Dearborn Hospital, DeMaria and our trade partners completed a linear accelerator replacement and finishes refresh project. Construction of this small yet mighty project took nine weeks and covered 780 square feet for the procedure/equipment room and 160 square feet for the control room. In the lower level of the hospital, 16 drums of slurry and associated concrete had to be hauled out after existing concrete was sawcut 16 inches thick.

As part of the scope of work, we also upgraded the mechanical system, located precise rough-in locations for medical vendors’ equipment, lasers, and cabling. Among the enhancements are new paint, floors, ceiling tiles, and a graphic printed on the wall protection. Over the patient treatment area of the active hospital, 275 linear feet of copper piping was installed above the ceiling through the basement.

The linear accelerator equipment was replaced and the MEP system was upgraded in order to accommodate the new linear accelerator equipment. We removed the existing pendent sprinkler heads and installed new sprinkler heads and piping. During the Linear Accelerator Replacement, Air and Hydronic TAB tests were conducted. An added feature known as BrainLab involved frequent coordination and multiple on-site inspections and testing by medical equipment vendors at various stages of construction. All project team members collaborated to bring about this transformation for Corewell Health.
