DeMaria Building Company Names Three New Principals

We are pleased to announce that Darren Murray, Mike Joseph and Rick Flynn have been named principals of DeMaria. All three principals are current members of DeMaria’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT). They have demonstrated excellent leadership skills and entirely embraced DeMaria’s Core Values (Positive Attitude, Quality, Results Driven & Relationship Focused) in their positions.

Darren MurrayDarren Murray, Principal, Executive Vice President – Darren has been with the company for more than 27 years. He’s been an invaluable leader, managing Operations and DSP, DeMaria’s self-perform division while holding the position of Executive Vice President for the past four years. Darren is a strong leader who understands the team’s needs and ensures they are given the tools to complete projects successfully. Before holding the title of Executive Vice President, Darren had the roles of cost engineer, project engineer, project manager, project director, assistant vice president, and vice president. At the time, he was the youngest project manager to be promoted at DeMaria and was the youngest ever vice president at the company. Darren holds a seat on the board of directors for the Associated General Contractors of Michigan and AGC and is a trustee for the Detroit Labor Pension Fund.

Mike Joseph, Principal, Vice President of Estimating & Pre-Construction Services – Mike joined the DeMaria team nearly 30 years ago and has led the Estimating department for more than half of that time, continuously challenging how we formulate costs and budgets to meet clients’ needs. He is a strong communicator and leader, using his skills to help secure work for DeMaria while building lasting relationships with key trade partners and clients. Prior to becoming Vice President of Estimating & Pre-Construction Services, Mike held many roles over the years, including Cost Engineer, Estimator, Senior Estimator, and Chief Estimator. Mike is currently on the AGC Education Committee, the Eastern Michigan University Advisory Board, and the South Lyon Planning Commission and is an Adjunct Professor at Eastern Michigan University College of Engineering and Technology.

Rick Flynn, Principal, CFO – Rick has been with the company for 26 years. Bringing seven plus years of previous corporate accounting experience, he started at DeMaria as a controller and has been Chief Financial Officer for the last eight years. As CFO, his most considerable responsibility is managing the company’s financial health. His timely and accurate work and honest opinion are very much appreciated. Rick is a team player, always willing to take charge and provide people with what they need. He takes pride in his responsibilities to assess risks and protect the company through insurance, bonding, and contracts. Rick has been a member of the Construction Financial Managers Association (CFMA) and the AGC Tax and Fiscal Affairs Committee. He participated in collective bargaining with the AGC’s Bargaining Committee on the last Detroit carpenter’s contract negotiations.

As principals, they now have the status of both shared ownership and leadership of the company, responsible for managing daily business operations.
