Air Traffic Control Tower and TRACON Building. Federal Aviation Administration

Project Details

The Air Traffic Control Tower and adjacent two-story TRACON Building, both built by DeMaria, houses staff and equipment for the management and monitoring of long range radar.  Rising 230 feet in the air, this structure was the tallest of its kind in the midwest when originally built. At 147 feet, the structure of the Tower changes from load-bearing precast concrete panels to structural steel with a precast concrete panel exterior.  The “mushroom” design of the tower required precast panels raised by crane then bolted to the underside of the steel frame.  Over 510 tons of steel went into the entire facility. DeMaria’s Self-Perform Department performed much of the concrete work for the project.
