Chemistry Building Renovation, Wayne State University
Wayne State University is a "Carnegie Doctoral &
Research University I" Institution. Renovating the north side
of the Chemistry Building has produced efficient lab space that
will lead to expanded research and additional grant revenue.
Communication was essential. DeMaria's project manager
and superintendent remained on site full time throughout the project.
Laboratories on all four floors were removed and replaced while
keeping existing labs in the basement operational. A new electrical
substation addition was also built that enables the building to
accommodate future expansion.
DeMaria took great steps to minimize noise and vibrations, since these could have been disastrous to lab experiments in the basement labs. Temporary shoring, designed by DeMaria, was put in place to protect sensitive lab equipment from dust during construction.
