Pits and Floors for the Heritage Final Assembly Plant, Ford Motor Company
The Heritage Final Assembly Plant is a modern facility that embraces sustainable design. DeMaria literally laid the ground floor from which the modern plant could be launched.
A floor flatness/floor levelness tolerance of FF35/FL25 was a critical requirement. DeMaria enlisted its own self perform department to install 1,000,000 square feet of floor space. Over 25,000 cubic yards of concrete was poured - 14,000 within the first 12 weeks. Fiber reinforced with metallic hardener, the new floor is perfectly flat and provides a solid base for the assembly equipment that rests upon it.
Process pits were another component. Twenty-four pits, some up to 300 feet long and 18 feet deep, were built within strict tolerances of +/- 1/4 inch over its entire length. Made entirely of concrete, each pit was constructed to withstand the routing of heavy machinery during the vehicle assembly process.
