Phase One Improvements - Research Building and Central Energy Center, United States Department of Veteran Affairs The VA Hospital Ann Arbor campus, originally built in the 1950's, recently underwent a comprehensive upgrade. DeMaria was involved in three out of the four phases to modernize the health system campus. Phase one involved the construction of a new 30,000 sf
energy center to supply heating and cooling to the 20-acre campus.
An underground diesel fuel tank farm was built adjacent to the energy
center utilizing cast auger piles as an earth retention system during
construction. DeMaria also built a three-story, 52,000 sf laboratory
research building featuring 17 independent wet labs and a vivarium.
The labs are used for a variety of medical research, including biomedical,
clinical and animal. A new emergency room entrance addition, pedestrian bridge connectors and underground tunnels that connect the energy center to the main hospital were also included in the scope. |
