Phase Four - Patient Tower Renovation, United States Department of Veteran Affairs
The VA Hospital Ann Arbor campus, originally built in the 1950's, recently underwent a comprehensive upgrade. DeMaria was involved in three out of the four phases to modernize the health system campus.
Phase four was a nine-story renovation of the original
patient tower with all utilities updated. Lead and asbestos were
also abated. The result was a transformation into a modern, 21st
century treatment and diagnostic center.
All floors were occupied during construction. Phasing,
cleanliness and isolating work zones from occupants were critical.
Demolition was completed using bobcats with air scrubbers on the
exhausts to prevent fumes and odors. Uninterrupted utility service
to the 10th floor and basement was kept up throughout the project.
