Department of Emergency Expansion at the Main Campus, Henry Ford Health System
Through the addition of 25 new treatment bays, Henry Ford Hospital now has space to accommodate 80 to 100 emergency room patients per day. Hospital staff can better care for patients and also be respectful of their privacy within a more efficient patient flow. The expansion increased bed capacity, reconfigured the nurses' monitoring stations, and improved the walk-in entrance, registration and patient waiting areas.
It was not a simple building addition. The project was built in a small courtyard flanked on all sides by tall buildings and overhangs housing patient beds, surgery and the existing ER. Access was restricted to one point immediately adjacent to the ER entrance requiring continuous coordination with the Hospital.
