Macomb County Jail, Macomb County, Michigan
The Macomb County Jail was one of the first correctional facilities in Michigan to use a centralized computer controlled center capable of controlling the entire facility from one location. No bars are used anywhere within the jail except at the central communications area.
The 12-story structure built by DeMaria is made is made up almost entirely of concrete. It supports a concrete frame with a masonry interior and brick exterior. All mechanical systems, emergency generator and smoke and fire detection systems are computer controlled.
DeMaria took great care to make sure the control center and mechanical systems were built, tested and commissioned properly. Miles of conduit were cast into the concrete structure allowing little room for error. State and local fire marshals viewed demonstrations of how all fire prevention systems would operate prior to completion. |
